IMPACT: EPIDEMIOLOGY

Foundational Methods Crucial to Public Health

Epidemiology underpins all public health, guiding interventions to prevent and control disease worldwide. In FY 2025, faculty in the Department led studies ranging from observational research to clinical trials and implementation science, tackling urgent issues such as aging, cancer, dementia, HIV, psychiatric conditions, social determinants of health, and substance use. Faculty also provided outstanding training to prepare the next generation of epidemiologists.

HIV molecules

Three pivotal projects—the DC CFARDC Cohort, and DC CTU—continued in FY 2025. Together, these grants advance HIV research, follow a large cohort of people living with HIV, and support clinical trials focused on prevention, treatment, and cure, all with the goal of ending the HIV epidemic in the United States and beyond.

Revolutionizing brain health

The Institute for Brain Health and Dementia convened experts from across the university and the community to examine and improve adult brain health through research, service, and educational activities. In addition, in  FY 2025, the Institute hosted a screening of Caregiving, a PBS documentary executive-produced by actor Bradley Cooper.
